S&K GRADINGGENERAL ENGINEERING
Mountain Center sits at the junction of Highway 243 and Highway 74, deep in San Jacinto high country forest, where long private roads and driveways matter as much as the building site at the end of them. S&K Grading builds the access and the pad together, because up here one does not work without the other.
Mountain Center is more crossroads than town, and the parcels around it tend to be larger and more remote than Idyllwild's forested village lots, often with long private roads reaching back from Highway 243 or Highway 74 to the actual building site. Grading equipment has to get in before any pad, clearing, or fire break work can start, so we plan the road as its own piece of the job: crowned, compacted, and graded to hold up under a work truck in wet weather, not just a passenger car in summer.
The forest and granite that define the high country apply here too: steep grades, decomposed granite and rock, and a very high fire hazard severity rating. Wells and septic are standard, and the short mountain working season shapes the schedule as much as the terrain does.
Yes, and on parcels like these the driveway is often the harder half of the job. We grade, crown and compact access roads so they hold up under real traffic and drain instead of washing out, then handle the pad or clearing at the end of it.
The parcels tend to sit further back from the highway, so the access road is usually longer, which is exactly why we assess the road first. Highway 243 and Highway 74 both reach the area; what varies is how far equipment has to travel once it leaves the pavement.
Yes. This is very high fire hazard severity country like the rest of the high country around it, and California requires defensible space around structures in wildfire-prone areas. We clear brush and cut fuel breaks to what the specific parcel needs.
